LASP Awards 

  • 2012-2020: Recognized by NAMM as a Best Community for Music Education in the country

  • 2015: Marquez received Wisconsin’s Martin Luther King Heritage Award and LULAC Ladies League’s Inovadora Award

  • 2014: LASP won a visit from the John Lennon Bus and was featured in the NAMM Music Education National Conference

  • 2013: Cello instructor Trischa Loebl named Youth Music Instructor of the Year; Marquez named one of Milwaukee’s 20 Most Creative People

  • 2012: Marquez received National Afterschool Innovators Award; Wilson Center for the Performing Arts’ Eddie Award; Marquez named Teacher of the Year by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Civic Music Association

  • 2010: Marquez invited back to the White House with several of her students as part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s efforts to promote the arts

  • 2009: Marquez named Milwaukee Artist of the Year by the Milwaukee Arts Council

  • 2008: LASP awarded National Coming up Taller Award, given by a Presidential Committee and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Humanities, hosted at the White House in Washington, D.C.

LASP Students Have Also...

  • Won individual local and state awards
  • Gone on to form part of and take leadership positions at:
    • Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra
    • The Wisconsin School Music Associations’ State Honor’s Youth Orchestras
  • Outperformed their peers in state and national standardized testing in reading, mathematics, and science
  • Won academic awards and scholarships to the best private high schools and colleges in the area
  • Went on to college: 95% of graduated LASP participants have attended post-secondary school
