Combining rhythms of Cumbia and Chandé from vocalist and accordionist Gregorio Uribe’s home of Colombia with funk and powerful jazz arrangements, Gregorio Uribe Big Band astonishes international audiences with brass crescendos, smooth melodies, and enticing beats. Now based in New York City, the sixteen-piece ensemble hails from Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, and the United States. Gregorio Uribe Big Band’s musicians’ diverse backgrounds shine harmoniously to create music that is at once reminiscent of the Colombian Big Bands of the 50’s and 60’s and a fresh, modern sound. The Government of Colombia identified Gregorio as one of the “100 Most Outstanding Colombians Living Abroad” in 2012 on a list that also included Shakira, Nobel Prize winner García Márquez, artist Fernando Botero, and actress Sofia Vergara.
