Tropicalisimo

By John Sevigny | March, 2016

Photographer John Sevigny captured the conditions that cause things and people to fall apart—heat, humidity, and impoverished conditions—and asked what’s to come in places that seem to be about to collapse. Tropicalísimo is a collection of forty photographs taken between 2012 and 2014 throughout Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. The collection indicates the beauty, culture, life, and sometimes violence throughout regions that are bound by rust, wire, string, and the sheer force of human will.

“If Tropicalísimo were music, it would be a cumbia, a bolero, and a greasy rock and roll song all in one.” – John Sevigny
