The Painted Path: A guided tour of murals and heritage

Explore the rich history of Milwaukee’s Hispanic/Latino community through exhibits, murals, and public art across the UCC campus, including works by acclaimed muralist, Reynaldo Hernandez, neighborhood youth, schools, community groups, and residents. The tour will highlight the history behind neighborhood architecture and landmarks such as the Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Walker’s Square Park.

The workshop will conclude with Mr. Lovo guiding families in creating sidewalk art inspired by their tour!

Talavera Birdhouses

Families will learn construction and painting techniques as they build and decorate birdhouses featuring Talavera designs. They will also explore this traditional folk art, including its history and evolution—from its roots in the Middle East and Spain to its place in the ever-evolving folk-art traditions of Mexico and Latin America.
