featuring Taller Yonke
Thursday, April 18th | 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Taller Yonke is a collective of artists from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico that creates visual art pieces focusing on human rights and finding a sense of pride and belonging in a border town with a transitory population. The themes of their work have also explored political concerns and the humane treatment of individuals caught between countries and ideologies.
The artists of Taller Yonke will share the mission and vision of their work in a special presentation in the Latino Arts Auditorium & Gallery (located in the United Community Center, 1028 South 9th Street, Milwaukee) co-hosted by Carroll University and Straub Immigration.
Following the presentation by Taller Yonke, attorneys from Straub Immigration will provide a brief summary of the deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) and provisional waiver programs, as well as an update on the progress of comprehensive immigration reform.
As an added bonus, AILA Wisconsin will share information about the dangers of using notarios, how to protect yourself and your family, and how to report notario fraud.
This event will take place in the Latino Arts Auditorium & Gallery, so attendees will also have the opportunity to view Ni De Aquí Ni De Allá by Raoul Deal, an exhibition of large woodcut prints that explores cultural identity in Milwaukee’s immigrant community, which is on display through June 7.
